And I'm going to be taking my gear, and a 65 - 5ft and a little shorter pvc pieces of tubing for my dome. And my bike. I live in the Grants Pass, Oregon area. I found out that RE/Search Publications has published BURNING MAN LIVE, which has the best of all 13 years (1994-2007), including “Best of Black Rock City,” “Sex and Drugs,” “Playa Fashion Do’s and Don’ts,” “You Know You’re a Burner When…” “Borg Wars,” interviews with Larry Harvey (Burning Man cofounder) and Harley DuBois (Director of Community Services), and introductions by Brian Doherty, Adrian Roberts, and Malderor. This book is 320 pages, and HUGE (8.5 by 11 inches) of pure Burning Man history– highly recommended – with really great articles and photos.

French man that randomly kissed cat girl

When I was at the Playa Surfers "beach party" some random French guy came up and kissed me. He took a photo of this event. I was the girl dressed in the cat suit. We were supposed to find each other at the Opulent Temple later, but as happens on the playa, the connection was not made. Anyway, months later the thoughts of him are creeping up, and I wished to try to find out who he was and see that photo. If any body knows who that was, that would be awesome. :)

Burning Man 2008 - Reward for Lost Items!!!

My name is Juliano, co-owner of Planet Raw in Santa Monica and renowned raw chef. I recently attended Burning Man 2008, and unfortunately, I lost two items, one at the Deep End on Saturday night around 8:30 PM:

1. A Canon Powershot, which was enclosed in an all-black Rainbow brand case with a rainbow logo on it

2. The other a circular, black fur Russian woman's hat -at the Big Dome

If you’ve found any of these items, I would gladly give a reward for their return. I actually don’t care to necessarily get back the camera, but the images on it themselves are very important to me.

Kiester Bunny Sightings

Last year I hippety hopped my way around the playa promoting bunnification and encouraging humans to leave the breeding to the bunnies by handing out condom flowers only to discover that I was so fervent in my cause that I completely forgot to document the moment on Kodachrome. So, I was wondering if any of you lovely folks saw the Kiester Bunny last year, and maybe snapped a shot of her? I was a female wearing neon pink & green ears, a pink bunny tail, a top hat, and a homemade pod-belt. I was also carrying a basket full of condoms and condom flowers.
I'd love a picture to embarrass my adoptive grand-kids with someday.

Camp Darfur Refugee Gifts table on the corner of 4 @ Destiny....you were taken with the foreign destiny and wanted to give something more. I loved you immediately, your openness and willingness to share of yourself.

Amazing...this describes at least 100 people who stopped by over the weekend while we were giving out toilet paper, jewelry and comic books. There was the cool couple who really dug the lil homies stickers, the people who flipped over our glass jewelry, the happy dozens who did the dance while picking up enough toilet paper to get them through the night.

Need a Ride East From Burning Man

Ok Burners,

As promised I am being a serious Sidhe.

For those of you who are traveling through California I have the following link for you.

This is the OFFICIAL website for the California Department of Transportation a.k.a. Caltrans. On this page you can type in a highway number and it will tell you of any detours and lane closures.

This is good to know since one of our most popular highways, Hwy 1, has a big detour at the infamous Devil’s Slide near Pacifica. They are fixing Hwy 1 as we speak but I do not think they will finish in time for the Burn.

Another warning is US 101 from San Rafael to the Oregon State Line. As soon as US 101 hits a small town there will be a local cop at the town limits. If they are bored they will follow you to edge of town. This is how the towns make their money. DO NOT GO THE SPEED LIMIT BUT UNDER IT. Know what I mean.

Another area to watch out for, especially if you are driving a truck or towing trailer, is I-80 from the I-80/I-680 interchange to the City of Fairfield. Fairfield is where the CHP 9-1-1 dispatch is. Plus, there is a major truck scale there. There are tons of CHP on that strip. If you see the CHP on the side of the road and slow down and speed up when you are past him… DON’T!!! IT IS A SPEED TRAP!!! There is another roller a mile or so down the road. When you get the hills near Fairfield watch out there too!!! Cops hang out on the curves!!! The CHP on this section of highway do not necessary drive Crown-Vics or motorcycles. They have a fleet of black pickup trucks with camper shells. So watch it folks

I would also like to take the time to tell everyone to “SLOW FOR THE CONES”. When you come across a construction site PLEASE SLOW DOWN!!! Caltrans have many accidents during the holiday season in the construction zone. May of my friends are working out there. We all have families. We all want to go home. So please stay within the posted speed limit in ALL construction zones. Plus the fact that CHP might be running COZEEP and the fines are doubled!!!

I will be offering a ride from the Bay Area and the stated above areas to BRC. I have a Ford Ranger with a passenger and two jump seats open. The passenger seat will be reserved for a large person. The two jump seats are facing each other and cramped. If a large person does not take up my offer then we can rotate seats on the way up to BRC.

My Ranger is in excellent shape with AC, open rear window, cup holder in front and back, XM radio and CD Player. I have a bike (with lock) rack that can hold up to 4 bikes. The bed of my Ranger has a tonnou so your stuff will be locked for all road stops. SPACE IS VERY LIMITED!!! YOU MIGHT HAVE TO CARRY SOME OF YOUR STUFF ON YOUR LAP IF NEED BE!!!

Routes, Stops and Pick Up Locations

I live in Petaluma. I will pick up anyone in SF, North Bay, East Bay or along the final route. If you really really really in need of a ride and you are not in these locations or coming from an airport... then lets talk!

I will be making rest stops at all rest stops. Potty breaks and need for a smoke (NO TOKE) or stretch are very much welcome! So are taking pictures.

I had two routes in mind but the final route will be:

1. Hwy 80 and dinner at the El Dorado Buffet (very yummy) in Reno.

RULES

1. No smoking in my truck.
2. NO DRUGS!!!
3. Must have ticket in hand. NO WILL CALLS OR WALK UPS.
4. Be well bathed.
5. Baggage Yes!!! Emotional baggage No!!!
6. No children.
7. Be Fun!!!

One of the Priestesses in training for United Pagan Temple came to me with an idea I would greatly appreciate some feed back on. Sister Rowyna has recently become involved in Seattle’s “Burning Man Community”. She was also involved in the set up of Synchroni-city of the mid west. These things seem to be commune type events (in the case of Burning Man it is a week long event in August/September). The people involved in these events bond together, working, living and interacting without the modern day trappings of TV, electricity, rental housing etc. Now here is the idea Sister Rowyna presented to me:
Why not get a couple acres of land ( that is 43,560 sq ft per acre) divide one of those acres into 10’x20’ plots for a total of 2000 plots. Use 60 sq ft for our (the Temple’s) main tents/ plot, and use the remains of that acre for a communal hall, restrooms, shower stalls. Have one large dome tent for communal baths. Each plot can be used for family garden, tents, small livestock, etc. You can bring, use and maintain generators to supply power if you wish.
The other acres would house Rabbit hutches, Chicken & Turkey pens, a milk cow (or 2 later). Each plot is rented for $50 a week or $200 a month. This money would cover the water/ sewer costs, property taxes, care and upkeep, with the remainder going into the Temple accounts. We can work out later if people want to house their own cattle, sheep, etc.
Ok, give me feed back on the viability, legalities, and feasibilities. Also if any one knows of a couple acres ( no less than 2) coming up for sale by April in Kitsap county area. I'm willing to admit that it was probably a serendipitous instance of playa magic running into this girl... a perfect encounter for the night. Just what I needed at the time, like a dark nymph wandering in from the haze then wandering out into the void of playa-night again, having, in the intervening hours, turned some switch or otherwise initiated a change. But if she is out there, I wouldn't mind letting her know that I remember her fondly and that I express great thanks for her presence that night. And it turned out that I did get a decent photo of you after all, dressed in your finery... Check the tribe photos for the stunner in all black with black markings on her cheeks.

The Deep End needs storage!

The Deep End camp was just given notice that our storage location is going to be taken away from us! This is an emergency...we will be in grave trouble if we cannot store the bar, stages, and inventory! HEEEELLLLPPPPPP!

The living room, couches, bar stools, carpets, and a few parts of the bar are stored in a school bus in Reno throughout the year. This leaves the majority of the bar, all 12 stages, the signs, flags, domes, rebar, and bar inventory to be stored. It is currently stored in 2 rooms in a basement.

We are looking for in or around SF, however, would consider elsewhere. We would like access to space, less in the fall and winter, increasing through the spring and busy during the summer.

If you have ideas, please, please, please let us know!!! :)

Missing Oxford PHD student... 2nd and Uranus???

I met an extraordinary guy the night of the burn. He was studying in Oxford, I think Literature or something.. He had an unusual name and was staying at 2nd and Uranus... Anyhow, he's come to mind a few times, and it would be cool to reconnect...

Him and another German guy came around for supper 7th and Jupiter, and then we buggered off to play in the balls at the Venus of Mars (?) had a bit of a boogie and then it came time to prep for the night, and that was the end of a beautiful friendship.. never to be seen again.

Not everyday you meet fantastic peeps (ok on the playa it happens all the time) but anyhow, its a friendship id love to keep alive! So... ahhh any ideas or any ideas of who the hell out of those 30K peeps Im talking about? its a shot in the dark, but hey why not? Any leads?

You: Big wooden dude. Don't talk to much, but have A LOT of friends. You threw a hell of a party, and even kicked in a little enlightenment. You never talk back to me, but you always listened. And your balsawood smelled so fucking good. Really good. Until I puked on it. You like to keep a light on all night and you have an amazing ability to stand totally still for long hours on end. You're really, really skinny (think skeleton) and when I see you in people's pictures you always have that content look on your upper plank-board.

So...

The reason I'm writing now (In March - the South Pole of August) - I want you to know I miss you. I have been thinking about it and I know we had some issues back in September - a little arguing, a little sadness - but hey, we've known each other for a long fucking time now and you've never been one to express a ton of direct emotion. But even so, you've been on my mind lately - that day we spent, listening to the wind cut across the desert landscape. That night we listened to fire machines breathe toward the stars. And what about that one moment of complete bliss where you, me, and the other thousand people hanging out in the general vicinity, all sang the theme song to The Flintstones? Good times. Really good times.

But the deal is this:

I probably won't be able to see you this year. We've had an amazing string of rendezvous(es) over the course of the last five summers and things for me this year are a little different. I don't feel like the same person, and I'm not totally certain I am. I mean, I pretty much look and act the same, but something feels different - something feels... well, honestly, gone.

Have I outgrown you? Have you outgrown me? Do I hate art now? Or do I not relate to your friends anymore? Did you change your balsawood?

Anyway...

I wanted to write a message to you to see if you're still out there. If you think there's still a future in us. Or if I, the dude that ran into you so many summers in a row, can't find my own ass, much less your summer home in the desert. Truth is, I'm pretty sure I'll go back in the future - I spent five yeaers defining my life around you, met my future wife through you, and spent more hours daydreaming about the land you stand on than I have actually completing work. But this year, at this point, if you're out there, let me know... I need a little encouragment.

I'm looking for pictures of the bodyworkers at Center Camp Cafe,
specifically one of myself, to use semiprofessionally in getting access to other festivals. There were three of us working there fairly steadily
and I was the only one with substantial facial vegetation. If anyone has pictures of me at work, I'd be grateful to have them.

LA Decom Black Top Boutique

The boutique is a place where ou can bring your excess costumes, semi costume, older costumes, and accessories or just stuff you want to get rid of in the clothing department to LA Decom. Take them straight to the Black Top Boutique and trade them in for something special or just donate them for those that are costumerrily challanged. Faabrika and Lulie will be on hand to help you come up with something wonderful. That way everyone on the street will be dressed up and participating.
Everything left over at the end of the night will be donated to the Boys and Girls club of LA.
